This second episode is entitled “The Layout” because we start building a website as a real project for a real organization. In this screencast, I begin by showing you the design that was used and how to begin to transfer those ideas from Photoshop into Freeway.

Included in this screencast package is a sample Freeway file as well as a JPG version of the design which includes items covered in the video. This will allow you to cut out the items along with me, however the WebYep items and text are not included. You will be able to add that text on your own and also would require you to purchase Max’s WebYep actions from his website.

Here is a complete list of topics covered:

  • Revealing of the concept design as a Photoshop file
  • How to use the Inline Box Model screencast to layout the design
  • How to use Photoshop’s Save for Web feature to cut out optimize images
  • How to use the Inline Box Model screencast to layout a tiled background that can be adjusted based off of the amount of content
  • A review of using keyboard shortcuts to maximize your workflow in both Photoshop and Freeway
  • How to use margin and padding to build site navigation
  • How to measure correctly the distance between elements on a page
  • How to insert WebYep items to create a sidebar that will have News and Events and a Contact Us section
  • How to utilize a Looped Element with WebYep to add additional elements to a website without the use of Freeway
  • Define what a fieldname and a global element in WebYep mean
